About ACVIM Foundation

The American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (ACVIM) Foundation is a non-profit organization created in 2000 to support and advance the work of specialists in the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (ACVIM): small and large animal internists, cardiologists, neurologists, and oncologists. Founded in 1973, the ACVIM sets international standards for veterinary internal medicine — overseeing board certification in the various fields of veterinary internal medicine, and advancing research and education.

Because clinical studies in veterinary medicine are severely underfunded, ACVIM specialists have long depended on the generosity of private donors and industry sponsors to support their research. The ACVIM Foundation exists to bridge the gap between available funding and the vital work that needs to be done.

Your contribution helps fund our programs of research, education, advocacy, and service, which are leading us toward our ultimate goal — healthier and longer lives for animals.

What We Do

The ACVIM Foundation gives you an opportunity to have a significant impact on the future of animal health and the veterinary internal medicine specialties. Your donations support:

  • Studies addressing the diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of animal diseases
  • Communication about the results of these studies to the veterinary profession and general public
  • Educational opportunities for ACVIM Diplomates, residents, and veterinary practitioners
  • Improved training of residents and veterinary students
  • Specialty Medicine Public Awareness
